Hi all,

My dad is currently having treatment for throat cancer. Although the cancer isn't in his voice boc, he has completely lost his voice.

Can anyone recommend good communication assistance that can be down loaded onto a tablet?

Many thanks for your help

  • Nims hi, I have an app on my phone/tablet called "Speech Assistant" which does what you're looking for.

Personally I very rarely use it as I'm happier with pen and paper but it's an option if that's the way he wants to go.

  • I too got that for when they were going after my tongue to tide me over in case I could not speak for a while.  In the end I did not have to use it, but it dis seem a good piece of software on Android.

  • Hi MikeO,

Thanks for your help, I hadn't thought of a phone app! That's a great idea as he has his phone with him all the time.

  • Thanks Peter, sometimes it's the easiest option that works best.

We'll give the app a go and decide if it's worth exploring further or go back to pen and paper.

We are also looking at speech therapy as they may have other suggestions.

    Appreciate your help and advice.

    Nims

  • The nice thing about the app is that you can have pre preprepared statements such as "I need more painkillers" or "I need some water" which makes asking for routine things super easy.
