6 months after my treatment for hypopharyngeal cancer stage 3 HPV 16 today I finally got the all clear, it’s been a tough 6 months what with Pet scan and MRI showing hot spots plus two biopsies down the line today my consultant gave me the all clear it was such a great feeling and a massive weight of my mind, so the results you want don’t always come at first and the waiting is very hard but soldier on and we get there in the end

  • Hi Kenny, that is great news. These kind of posts are brilliant for those, who are just starting out, and those who are having their treatment. All the best.

    Regards Ray.

  • Excellent news Kenny. As Ray says, it’s great news for those following on too. Congratulations Thumbsup

  • A huge congratulations to you and your family.  I'm just starting mine, but you have given me more positivity.  Onwards and upwards. Xxx

  • That’s utterly brilliant news, Kenny. It shows to everyone that, although it’s a battle and it’s super tough, there IS a light at the end and it’s worth fighting for! Now the rest of your life begins and you, your loved ones and everyone around you can start to really live it the way you’d like to do!

    So VERY pleased for you!!

May I just ask a quick question? I also have had a second biopsy and am in such pain nearly 8 weeks after it. Did you have that too bad how did you overcome it? I’m fighting to reject it with the use of drugs abd, I think, it may be getting slightly better, but it’s been (and still is) a long haul through pain and frustration. I can’t think that 8 weeks post op it should still be so painful, but the hospital don’t seem too concerned, though I’m suffering from “lock jaw” - can hardly get my mouth open now, so I am worried.

Sorry - don’t want to detract from your brilliant news, but I need to tell myself I’ll get better one day soon too - or I don’t know if I can go on Frowning2

    All the best

    Dave

  • Fantastic news.  Stay well.

Dave. Never mind your team not being worried. It’s your body and it needs help. The pain will go even though you may need pain killers for a while longer. I had a second biopsy at 22 weeks and was warned it would be very painful. I was so angry with myself. I had put all my heart into getting better. I’d really looked after myself and my PET threw up a hot spot. I was beside myself thinking I had done all this for nothing.
Oops I’m going off at a tangent here.
The trismus. You need to get this sorted asap. Get back to your SLT and insist something is done. There are mechanical aids to get your mouth open.

  • Thanks Dani! I’ve talked to my speech therapist and she’s recommended a medieval looking torture device called a Therabite, which apparently my GP must prescribe. It looks horrendous. Is there no opRoflation they can do to make the jaw open? I must Google “trismus” - I’ve been putting my fingers in between my teeth and trying to force them apart. The pain of the teeth biting into my fingers somehow offsets the pain in my jaw! Rofl. You have to laugh …. Except I can’t!! I just smile sweetly these days!!
