Went for a second opinion yesterday at a Bupa hospital with a colleague of the consultant I already saw.

I have to say I was gob smacked by how awful the service was half the consultants necessary equipment was missing and we had to hunt it down, other people were in the rooms he needed to use and the one piece of equipment he used to put up my nose and down my throat was enormous he apologised and said it was the most out dated and thick camera he had ever had to use. He then went on to tell me that he was going to go private but with another company . I told him the service I had recieved so far from the NHS was outstanding he said it won't be there for much longer use it while you still can . Then he got in to the swing of things and said to me your morbidly obese you have smoked and drunk most of your adult life you don't drink enough water you have disrespected your body and now your paying for it, I wouldn't take you on in my practice as your too complex and I don't need that stress in my life go back to the NHS,  then shooed me out the door. And I had to pay for that privilege it just made me more grateful for all the wonderful caring people I have come across in the NHS and if I have to pay into anything I would rather pay it to the NHS. Rant over lol

Have a new MRI booked for Monday and I have been practicing meditating and mindfulness so hoping that helps this time .

Thanks for reading

  • OMG, shocking behaviour. Sorry to hear this , sounds like he needs to work on his bedside manner. Ask yourself, would you want this person giving you any treatment??
i must say, i work for NHS, yes it has its problems especially in cancer waiting times but the care i have had has been speedy and thorough from a medical point of view.

    Good luck for Monday

  • It just goes to show how great our NHS is. Good luck for Monday.

    Regards Ray.

  • That’s down right rude. Sorry you’ve had such a terrible experience. Gather your wits about you try the advise  we’ve given you. Remain positive you can do the mri it’s maybe 30 minutes out if your life. Practise meditation and nice thoughts. You can do it we’re all with you

  • I am just totally gobsmacked as you were, how unprofessional. You definitely don’t deserve to hear such judgmental comments at a time like this. I would run hard and fast away from that doctor. This is a time when you need encouragement and understanding.  He certainly needs to work on his bedside manner and update his tools of trade. He sounds like a very unhappy man taking it out on you.

God bless the NHS. Best wishes for your MRI.

  • I am amazed at reading this at Bupa. I have used Nuffield which was great for initial service but so glad of my local NHS anyday of the week. Bupa must be desperate to hire staff who are ill mannered.
