Hello ....new member here. My husband, 74, was diagnosed with a T4 cancer after a huge bleed from his throat in February. He was given perhaps a few weeks/ few months to live after 5 days in ICU
The tumour is large and encases his right carotid artery but.... After 2 sessions of palliative radiotherapy ....he is still here and has an appointment re. immunotherapy soon with a hope of giving him a little longer. At this stage no further information on which drug and regime etc.
At the moment he feels and looks well but has excessive mucus building up in his throat. He uses a nebuliser ( saline ) a few times a day and before going to bed.
Apart from trying to sleep propped up in bed.....is there anything he can do to lessen this mucus to prevent coughing/ choking?
Hi Mynydd
welcome. Sorry to hear your bad news.
Can your husband drink water? Sipping it will help thin the mucous and it would be worth asking his doctor if he could try a drug called carbocysteine which is a mucolytic you can get on prescription
I hope something can help, it’s horrid having to cope with thick mucous
Exciting that he might be a candidate for immunotherapy. There have been some astounding results
Good luck.
Dani
