Hi just found out my husband as throat cancer he also as prostate cancer found that out about 2 years ago but with covid everything want on hold .he was going to London to have the prostate removed but now they found the throat cancer he can't have the prostate op.

Am worried about the throat cancer more it as spread but not sure how much yet . They said he will need radiotherapy for 6 weeks . Am worried this body can't take 2 lots of cancer .he's so thin now Sleepy

  • Hello Twad and welcome. So sorry to hear about your husband. It certainly sounds like a very difficult situation. What do his clinicians say? I don’t think they would be suggesting 6 weeks of radiotherapy unless they thought he stood a good chance of either cure or a long remission.
You say he us thin. Is this because he is ill or is he built this way?
Likely he will get a feeding tube if treatment proceeds so he will be able to get his nutrition right.
The RT is tough and he will need your support but it’s doable. I managed at 68 and I’m still here 3+ years later.
Let us know how things go and good luck

  • Hi Twsd. Welcome from me.  Go with him take 2 sets of questions one for you and s copy for consultant to have in front of them. Don’t leave until you’re satisfied.
As are lymph nodes involved with lump I. Neck it’s quite possible. I had 7 affected lymph nodes plus tumour inside tonsil. I still got cured so it’s not that scary.
Ask us he HPV positive that makes a difference hiw the tumour responds.
will there be chemo and will there be a peg ir rig fitted prior to treatment.
just a few things to ask.
From my understanding prostate cancers tend to be slow growing but head and neck are quicker hence the reason they want that seen ti first. I could  say don’t t worry but you will worry at least until a plan is in place.

  • Thanks not really sure how far it's gone yet as they didn't have the pet scan results when they told us the news. He did say its in the tongue but that's not where its started. They said rt treatment and bit of chemo. Your all so brave going through this I know you didn't have a chance but if it was me not sure I could cope. I wasn't worried about the prostate cancer but this throat cancer is worrying me .I want to cry break down but I can't I have to put on my happy face for him

  • Do you know sometimes I think all this is worse for our carers who get little support. It's easier for us as we just put our heads down and get on with it through the pain and meltdowns. Oropharyngeal cancer is eminently treatable and curable in most cases, It's just a tough treatment. Nevertheless it's just a few  months in our lives. My husband was stalwart in support. I wanted to know everything about my cancer. He wanted to know everything about supporting me, never mind what was was causing it. Yin and Yang, so we got through

They are a leading but very personal and friendly Head and Neck cancer charity. Once you get over that hump you'll feel better. The phone is usually answered by Chris Curtis's wife Sharon who was his carer. It's manned 24 hours a day by a proper person, not a machine.

You can ring macmillan too. The number is at the bottom of my post.
