Tonsil cancer

Hello, my name is Andy. I'm 48 years old and have been diagnosed with stage 2 hpv 16 positive in my right tonsil, saliva gland and lymph node. I've been told I have a good chance of recovering but I'm terrified and can't shake the feeling that I'm going to die.

  • Hi Andy. Welcome to the club none of us ever wanted to join. Never the less here we are. I’m almost 4 years post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes and now happily living my life. HPV tumours respond well ti treatment. My blog below might help. Remember we are all different but yes our tyie if cancer is eminently curable keep  that  jn your head. We all worry but take heart from ys lit in herd. Any questions just ask.

  • Hi Andy. That’s exactly how I felt immediately. It’s normal. HPV oropharyngeal cancer is curable. The treatment isn’t a walk in the park but it’s only a few weeks out if your life. Try to avoid Google. Ask here or your team. Stick with us and we’ll help you through

  • Thanks for the reply, currently waiting for treatment to start. Doesn't feel real at the moment I think because treatment hasn't started yet, although I'm having six teeth pulled today in preparation for radiotherapy. Thanks again your message gave me a boost

  • Hi you’re welcome nothing like first hand experience,like Dani says keep off Google please too many false facts u less you know where to look. Stick on here plus ask your team.

    If it’s any help I’m just setting iff for a walk in north wales so far this week ridden 60 km and walked 20 plus miles see life does go on.Oh dear sorry re teeth i was lucky  didn’t need any extracting, I was treated at Leeds cancer centre if you want to tell us where abouts are you ?
