Hubby had six teeth out which resulted in an infection) but we finally got 'under starters orders' on Monday - overnight stay for First Chemo cycle and he's had RT every Day. Swallowing and taste are already an issue. Today Nurse asked if he had lost weight as mask was already slack at chest area. Kev has only lost a few pounds - but I want to do my best to assist with maintaining his weight. Any soup suggestions that are both nutritious & high in calories would be greatly appreciated. Nurse advised him yesterday that a very high amount of patients getting his treatment end up hospitalised for last few weeks - has anyone experienced this. Treatment plan = 6 weeks RT and 2 Chemo areas being treated all around neck - both tonsils and back of tongue.
Thank you all for your kind and continued support through this process.
Yes, I was an in-patient for the last four radio sessions due to weight loss, it's not uncommon. He'll hopefully already have a dietician who can give him high calory drinks, and it's perfectly possible to rely solely on those; I did it for three months in 2014 and another five in 2020.
Also, have a look at this site, may not be immediately useful but might help in the long term.
