Hello. I’m in week 8 post treatment for tonsil & lymph node hpv 16 I had 30 sessions of radiotherapy & 6 of chemo. I am eating yoghurts, soft fruits & mousse type desserts. My dietician is pushing for me to eat more textures & generally just more! I am finding this v difficult. It is painful & just have no appetite. Any advice please?
Hi Blod. Yes textures are easier than you think. Try toasted tea cakes or crumpets with lashings of butter. Toasted cheese is quite good too. You could try it on toast without the crusts. You might be surprised at how you can manage. Try a small sip of warm tea to act as saliva to help you chew.
You won’t have an appetite for ages so for now food is fuel. It does get better

Hi Blod I’ve replied on the other post. As Dani says try well buttered toast I used to cut in quarters and took me a year or 2 to manage the crust. I sound cheap white bread easiestbti start with. Artisan breads took much longer. Hazel
the toast opens up a world of opportunities the cooking if the breast by/roasting makes it easier always followed with a sip of warm tea or coffee if yiu can manage it. Hazel x

Hi Blod
Sounds as though you are getting on well for 8 weeks post treatment.
I found baked beans partially mashed up was fairly easy to manage and has protein in it as a plus as well as fibre.
It is a time for trial and error to work out what you can manage.
Best of luck

Hi Hazel. Which other post? Am
confused (easily done!) x
You replied on the Waiting treatment post to Gill asking her what help her dieticians have her so I put link in there. Will post it in here for you.
Gill.
Apologies for jumping on this thread but I’m looking for any help as far as eating goes. Can I ask how your dietician helped you with eating? I’ve not found mine to be very helpful. I feel I’m on my own & struggling.

You could look at this. This lady follows my blog and I think her book is available free on kindle. Easy Follow Easy Swallow: Transitioning off a PEG tube back to oral eating includes recipes written by a head and neck cancer survivor. www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PD76KJAC1B3CYB9C35BH
