He's in his 50's and has been told it is terminal - I have no 'in depth' details. I know that he has had various treatments (radio/chemo) over the years but the last scan was bad news. However The Marsden have suggested he consider a 'Proton treatment'. I wondered if anyone had anyone had any experience of this?
Hi SwimWalker. Welcome to our community. So sorry to hear such bad news. There are a couple of people here who have had proton as a first line treatment
All I know is that Proton beam is still radiotherapy but it can be more finely tuned to avoid normal tissue. So in that respect it can be used in a palliative setting. after ordinary xray radiotherapy has been used.
Will it be to ease symptoms?
I hope the Marsden can do something for him.
Best wishes
