I know I am a bit previous I got referred to hospital yesterday on fast track lump on right hand side of kneck and feels like something not quite right when I swallow so no diagnosis yet. I am absolutely terrified and thinking the worse my husband died 7yrs ago with oesophageal cancer and he had no symptoms. I’m sorry if I am upsetting anyone I just saw the forum and everyone seems positive I just want to say thank you.
Hi Transpol and welcome to the community. So sorry you've found yourself here.
You've found yourself at the very worst bit of the road. Waiting for a diagnosis is hard, really hard. The only thing you can do is keep yourself busy till you have some sort of idea of what's happening. Most referrals are not cancer so hold onto that.
Having said that, a swollen lymph node is a classic presentation of tonsil cancer. I'm saying this because I'm sure you've hit Google already. My advice from now would be to leave the Net alone. You'll frighten yourself with inaccurate and out of date information.
Most tonsil cancer is HPV+ve and treatable and curable, so another thing to hold onto.
Good luck with your referral and I hope it comes to nothing, but if it does stay with us, there are a lot of helpful people here that have survived and thrived
Best wishes
Dani

Hi Transpol and welcome from me too.
I was diagnosed with base of tongue cancer in May 2018. I did scare myself silly with googling tongue cancer before I'd seen my consultant for a proper conversation on the treatment!
There are lots of us here who have had similar diagnoses and been treated successfully so you'll find plenty of support should you require it.
All the best.

Jenny hi. Try not to get ahead of yourself, at the moment cancer is a possibility, nothing more; you're going to be seriously unlucky just to get a diagnosis.
But if you draw the short straw, as we all did, you'll get a huge amount of support and head and neck cancers are very curable. I've been around patients (in real life and on here) for eight years now, must've interacted with hundreds, and I can count the number of people who've succumbed to it on one hand with fingers to spare.
Not easy by any means but sounds like you have a great family behind you, and they're not going to lose you! I have ten grandchildren from sixteen down (watched one of them do a dance performance in a proper theatre this evening, wonderful) and they were obviously much younger (and fewer) when I started out, so I can empathise with how you feel.
Cross the bridge if/when you come to it. If it happens you'll have the tools.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Hi Jenny feeling sorry for yourself is allowed just not all the time. Just pop on here when you need to. In meantime enjoy the grandkids. We have 3 step grandkids via son in law one of them nowhas 3 little girls all under 5 ! 2 of them born while I was in recovery
Busy Christmas ahead Hazel
