Hi
I am 6 weeks post chemoradiotherapy for tonsil cancer. My mouth feels awful every day. It is extremely dry but also feels like it has been painted with glue. Does anyone have any advice on how to cope or know when it will get better? It really gets me down. Thank you
If you still have sticky mucous then sipping water frequently helps. I used to steam over a bowl of water twice a day and some people used a nebuliser.
by six weeks mine had gone but it’s not a race and we are all different.
Chewing xylitol gum helps normal saliva along. It will get better.
Oh and I had and still do have acupuncture. There are details in my blog.
Best wishes and well done on getting this far.
Thank you for taking time to replyI do steam and sometimes use a nebuliser (but find it quite drying)
Is the gum available in chemists?
Peppersmith from Amazon
Hi Dry mouth unfortunately can stick around there’s no quick fix. I sm years post radiotherapy and still use xyimelts at night Amazon or other dental sites plus jn day I chew orbital blue tub chewing him any supermarket as long as xylitol is main ingredient.
I too had acupuncture which I swear kick started my saliva production. You need auricular acupuncture.
boots do a small spray for dry mouth
Plus I carried water everywhere. Our saliva glands take a battering during treatment takes time to recover.
you’ll get there but as for timescale we are all different.
