Hi and welcome. BOT SCC is exactly what I had. T2N0M0 HPV +ve Diagnosed in 2018 with treatment starting in the December. I had 6 weeks of RT which finished towards the end of January 2019. So I'm nearly three years clear and in remission.
The treatment is tough but doable and has a high chance of cure.
The RT doesn't hurt and takes only around ten minutes a time. You won't notice much till the end of week two when your throat will get sore and your neck a little red. It does ramp up after that so you will find it difficult if not impossible to eat. I had an NG tube placed at the end of week three for nine weeks. It saved my life. Please do use your radiographers as your first port of call as they will liaise with the rest of the team to make sure you are kept as comfortable as possible.
The pain is manageable but to keep on top of it it's best to take it regularly by rote.
Don't worry. In a few weeks you'll be through the other side.
Keep in touch here and you'll get plenty of help and support as you need it.
Keep off Google. The best places for advice are your hospital and the folk on here. Trust your team. All this is new to you but your doctors do this every day and are good at it.
No question is silly or daft. Ask away. Somebody will help
Best wishes
Dani
Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi there and welcome to the forum.
Like you and Dani I also had base of tongue cancer. I opted to take part in a trial and had a neck dissection and robotic surgery to remove the tumour plus radiotherapy. My treatment finished in August 2018.
Dani has covered the basics of what to expect. We all react to treatment slightly differently with some experiencing certain side effects worse than others or to a much lesser degree.
Lots of useful advice and support available on the forum if you need it.
All the best.
