Hi all I finished my radiotherapy three weeks ago now and I'm progressing relatively well!!..my cancer is/was on my vocal chords I had 16 sessions I lost my voice about two weeks ago and was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it will be before I get it back?....I know we are all different it's just so frustrating.
Hi Michael and welcome to the forum.
My voice started sounding a bit odd before I was diagnosed with base of tongue cancer which was one of the things that alerted me to the fact something wasn't right. Once I sarted radiotherapy my voice went completely. I had lots of sessions with speech and language to try to get my voice stronger and after several months with lots of exercises etc it did improve slightly but unfortunately it's still extremely weak and often goes completely. I was taught a new way of vocalising to some extent. I finished my treatment in August 2018 and have been told by speech and language that my voice won't get any better. Don't lose heart though as I think I'm a bit of an anomaly in this respect as I've not heard of anyone else whose voice hasn't recovered.
I would contact your team and ask to be referred to speech and language as soon as possible.
All the best with your continued recovery.
