Hello there,
I'm new to this group.
My partner has just been diagnosed with basaloid squamous cell carcinoma, found in his lymph gland.
As far as i can see this is a more aggressive form of SCC.
Next steps are for them to do a PET CT for them to try and identify areas to biopsy under pandendoscopy.
They are obviosuly looking for the primary site, but say in 5% of cases they don't find this.
Once they have completed these investigations will decide on surgery or chemo or both, as next stage of 'management' (I hate this word).
He is 41.
I've gone to absolute pieces, and I know I shouldn't play 'Dr Google' but it's so difficult waiting when the prognosis already sounds so bad.
I know I need to be strong to support him but i'm finding it incredibly difficult.
Any tips or advice would be greatly welcomed :)
Thank you,
Cat
Hi brilliant I had roast lamb dinner when I got home. Hope he enjoyed the bacon n egg butty. Remember the painkillers he will
mire than likely need them sooner rather than later. If he’s on co codomol or codeine word if warning on constipation . Nice subject but it’s a common one for all of us when we were on painkillers. Laxido or movicol are the best.
ket us know how he us fingers x results there for m d t. Mine was right tonsil so if it’s there welcome to the club. Ask h p v status as well as it does make a difference on how tumour reacts.

Thanks for the hpv tip Hazel. I’ll add it to my notebook of questions. Roast lamb dinner sounds excellent- maybe I’ll make him one next Sunday. He seemed to be in quite a lot of pain by the time he got to bed so I’m worried as the nurse and Peter on here have said day 4 or 5 the worst. :( We have codeine. I’ll get some laxatives tomorrow with the other prescription maybe. I’m glad they think they have found the primary I must say. X
Hi Cat plus do you have prescription exemption form as cancer patients we get free script s for 5 years yeah !!! Well if under 60 you do I got them feee anyways.
yes ask about h p v status.
Yes the pain will ramp up until about day 10 I only had tonsil soft palate and tonsil wall biopsies My tonsil was left but radiotherapy soon got rid of it by melting that and my uvula ( dangly but at back if throat). Try to make sure he drinks if only sips I found herbal tea soothing . Fingers x for primary being found. If it’s not tge team will know what to do

Hi Cat
Good luck with the meeting today. Unlike Hazel I only saw members of the team on a one to one basis. Firstly my consultant who talked me through my treatment and then various other people who explained parts of the treatment in more detail.
Make sure you have a contact number for your partner's Clinical Nurse so that if you do think of any other questions after the meeting you can contact her/him.

Yes like Linda I was never present at an MDT. They are weekly meetings where all the specialists meet to discuss all the patients in their care.
When I got my diagnosis I had my CNS oncologist and surgeon in the room. Then I got whisked off by my oncologist to go through my consent form then off to the dentist to gave my teeth checked. That was it for the day. The next appointment was to get my mask made and to have a planning CT. Then there was the wait for RT to start. I did have a Macmillan meeting to see if I needed any counselling and there were dieticians in there somewhere.

And that’s a great point too. There don’t seem to be as many neck dissections being done are there?
