Hi my husband has neck cancer & has had 2 lots of chemotherapy & is in week 4 of radiotherapy. He finds eating sooo hard, but the fortisip liquids make him nauseous or even sick . Any recommendations ? The nurse has said if he doesn’t eat , they’ll put him on a pump.
Hi welcome to our small community group. Yes it’s a fact we need to eat at the end of week 3 I couldn’t swallow enough calories so I had a n g tube fitted. It was a life saver for me I had it in for 6 weeks. All my medication went via the tube plus 3 litres of water. Honestly it’s nothing to fear our bodies need nutrition and hydration to help us get through treatment and more importantly recovery.
Plus weight loss can impede treatment if the mask no longer fits please complete him to have the tube if the nurses think he needs it. My tube enabled me to make a giid recovery much quicker. It’s hard when you can’t take food orally I’ve been there. Plus they could well admit him if he’s dehydrated.you could try poached eggs jelly’s etc that slip but he will struggle if he can’t get enough calories

I found my tummy shrunk so I had to feed little and often which helped . Some system j was feeding mist if day in and off until I found a balance

Hi wig, Has he been given and anti sickness pills to help with this? If he hasn't ask the team for some, if he has ask if there are any others they could give him, which might help. Try and get him to put plenty of water through his feeding tube. Is he having over night feeds through his feeding tube?
Regards Ray.
Hi and welcome. I had awful nausea from the morphine. Metoclopramide did help but there are better drugs.
If the Fortisips are upsetting him then ask the dietician to suggest something else. There are alternatives.
There is nothing wrong with being fed by pump. I had an overnight feed which is really easy to cope with. The pumps are portable so it’s easy to get to the loo at night. I slept in the spare room. It left me free all day to play with other food and not bother too much with HAVING to eat. It is worth thinking about.

Hi,
I was completely peg fed for a few weeks. I got sick at one point and moved to half an Ensure every couple of hours because stomach just couldn't take a full one. Also had oxetacine and antacid on top of my daily Lansoperazol. Even though I wasn't swallowing at one point, it stopped the reflux that made me sick.
Maybe try different flavours or as others have said something else. Have you been given a number for dietician? Give them a call.
Hope you find something that works. 4 weeks done, so he's getting there. Stick with us for any tips.
Take care, Ronnie
The anti sickness meds we are all started on the cheapest ask fir others as there’s so many on here who have needed to have them changed and noticed big improvement s.

Hi wig, once he starts having over night feeds, it will take away alot of the worry about not eating. It is very easy to set up and very portable. I used it for several weeks.
