Just introducing myself and as having been told I have nasopharyngeal cancer 4 weeks ago, quite a shock. Have had 1 scan Im waiting to be told how far advanced it is so am just sitting in limbo, with the next appointment on the 15 September. Although both lymph glands are inflated with hard lumps so I think it's spreading. I'm having the treatment in Portugal as that's where I'm staying at present. I would like to connect with other people and their experiences to give me some kind of idea of what to expect. Anyhow I'm just breaking the ice and joining the community for support.
Hi Nelg
I am sorry about the diagnosis you have received. The waiting is the hardest thing but head and neck cancers are usually very treatable. Once you get a firmer picture about what is happening and your treatment programme is put in place things move a lot faster. Ask your medical team anything you need to know as they will be very experienced.
Hopefully your treatment journey will be completed quickly and then you can concentrate on recovery. It does take a while but you will get there. You will get all the support you need from this forum as there is always someone who has experienced the same thing you have.
I am now 18 months post my treatment and am feeling very healthy and moving on with my life.
Best wishes to you.

Thank you lyn for your encouraging advise, was it nasopharyngeal cancer that you had? For me and my wife it's a journey of living one day at a time and of true patience. It's good to know that others have walked the walk and are available to help when I ask
Hi Neig. Welcome to our small community group sorry you’ve found yourself on yet. I am 3 years post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes. Whilst I was in treatment I met a guy Neil he had nasopharyngeal cancer our our treatment was the same. He too is 3 years post radiotherapy Recovery wise very similar he could eat orally all way through albeit it was the high calorie ensure drinks towards the end and first weeks of recovery
hope this helps. I’ve a friend whose gone through similar treatment in extremurada province in Spain recently

im pleased for you and that your feeling well. I have so many questions but I know I have to wait. So I am holding myself in gentle uncertainty.
Hi Nelg
No I did not have nasopharyngeal cancer but cancer of the jaw in 2013 and 2019. I had operations for this both times and radiotherapy both times but not chemotherapy.
My surgeon was fantastic and I am still being seen 3 monthly for checks. I have complete faith in him as he has done a wonderful job and has always been there for me.
I know your medical team will be fantastic too.
I have made a good recovery and can do most of the things I could before my treatment with one or two exceptions.
Although my experience is quite different to yours one thing most of us share is the initial shock of being diagnosed with cancer after being very healthy. However time is a great healer and I now feel completely healthy so much so that I just had a short holiday to Kangaroo Island (I live in Australia)
Wishing you the best for your treatment and recovery.
