From late afternoon on Saturdays till my chemo on Tuesday I just flump and I am sore tired.  The steroids I get from chemo have run out and wore of so I am tired and emotional and almost sleep till Tuesday.  Can anyone advice and natural pick me ups.  Thank you.  All advice so far taken and works. Carran x

  • Hi Carran. Unfortunately there’s not a great deal you can do apart from hunker down over the weekend. The steroids give you an artificial lift then you get the drop down. If there was a magic potion would tell you. It is par for the course in my experience. As the weeks go by  your hardly notice what day it is you’ll be that busy, keeping on top of oral hygiene ,medication, trying to maintain weight in between hospital visits and the much needed sleep.
My chemo was delivered on a Monday I had a big dose every 3 weeks so I had the steroid drop on a Thursday but didn’t have chemo again until 3 weeks later so just had to cope with treatment if that makes sense.

    Thank you x

  • The best advice I got from my team was to drag myself out for a walk. I’m lucky here in that we have our own land but a few trips round the garden is enough. It did make me feel better. It might not be for you but a little fresh air and removing yourself from your cave often helps even though it takes a lot of effort.

I do have a farm field at the back of my own garden and a small dog field at my sisters so will thy this x

  • Hi Carran,

Just a quick check in to see how you're doing. Fresh air worked wonders for me too. Either a walk with the dig, or if really tired just sitting in the garden. We put a pond in a few years ago and I'd just watch the fish. Strange how we all respond differently, I too looked forward to the chemo bounce. The steroids reduced my arthritis and made me feel really good for 3-4 days. I'd spend a bit of time at the weekend planning things to do when I was back up after chemo.

    Take care, Ronnie

Hiya and thank you for asking.  Had a weekend wobble and admitted to hospital.  Couldn't swallow anything.  Feeding tube fitted, small steps.  Bit ropy.  Week 5 of 7 and then counting down to the big recovery.  Keep dreaming about bacon butties.

  • Hi you’ll get there I had  n g feeding tube week 3 snd kept it in for 6 weeks. Once you get used to it it takes the stress away if trying to maintain nutrition and hydration orally. Plus all medication goes in that way. Leaving you free to concentrate on treatment snd if you feel like it sipping water etc.
you’ll  get there we all do. Baby steps
Kerp the bacon buttie in your head for now!
