Morning folks, I've just recently been diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. It's around my tonsil and tongue muscle. Been told it's inoperable so I begin chemo and radiotherapy next Thursday.

I'm taking it a day at a time but I don't think the seriousness of it has sunk in yet.

I do have one question though, did anyone have pain after feeding tube (RIG) fitting? It's 2 days after and I'm getting bouts of what feel like stomach cramps, they seem to come in waves.

Thank you.

  • Hi,MickFCSP, sorry you have had to join us on here, however you are at the the right place, to ask any questions you have and get some good advice. As for the cramps you are getting from your RIG, this seems the normal after a couple of days, I remember I had the same. Make sure you take your painkillers if they gave you any,if not ask them for some, if you get too worried you could give your team a call.

All the best for your treatment, any questions ask away, someone will always come back to help, if they can.

    Regards Ray.

  • Hi Mick and welcome to the community

I can't help with the RIG as I didn't have one...relying on an NG tube instead

Morning folks, I've just recently been diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. It's around my tonsil and tongue muscle. Been told it's inoperable so I begin chemo and radiotherapy next Thursday.

My base of tongue was inoperable too so I had six weeks of RT and more than 30 months later I'm here and well

The RT isn't easy but doable and there is a mine of tips and help available here so ask away...no question is daft and whatever problem you have there is somebody here that can guide you from experience.

Where are you being treated, by the way?

    Best wishes

Thank you Hazel , I'll have a look at your blog.

  • Hi Mick Mine was inoperable too so I had 30 radio and was suppose to have 6 chemo but only had 4 due to complications. You are lucky having rig fitted as a God send further down the line when your throat gets sore. Its all manageable and you will get through this treatment in time. Do what I did go to the cake shop and pig out , you need to eat as much fattening food before and during treatment if possible . All the Best Regards Minmax

  • Hi Mick,

    Sorry you find yourself here.

I had problems with PEG to start with, ended up in A&E with the pain 4 days after fitted. Got codeine to help (but needed movicol to manage effects of codeine!). It should settle soon. If it leaks around stoma get it swabbed,  incase it is infected. Antibiotics can sort that. I barely notice it now though and will be having it removed next week. Despite first days of discomfort, no regrets having it as I completely relied on it at one point.

Wishing you all the best, Ronnie

  • I keep writing about the peg on here. Today this is the third time to posters.
