Hello My first time and all that but it is good to know you are there.
Having had my tonsils removed I received the news nobody wants to hear, and today I had my first treatment of Radiotherapy.
I just wanted to ask as anybody found they cough more than normal ? I find I am coughing more especially when lying down it is probably nothing though I do wonder if it is all part and parcel to what I have gone through so far.
Thank you in advance.
Hi AG14 Welcome to the club we all thought we would never be joining. I was treated for base of tongue cancer which really fried a few things . I found doubling up on the pillows really helped or you can get these odd L shaped ones which worked a treat. You will get through all this . All the Best Regards Minmax
Hi AG14 We are all here for you to question and help if possible as we have all been through similar things . Truth be told I was S hitting it at first until I came on here and spoke to some knowledgeable people who put me at ease . Whatever you do stay off google as Dani or Hazel advised. or that could send you down a rabbit hole which you defo dont want I know lol . All the Best Regards Minmax
Hi, AG14 you have had a great answer from Minmax, that's just what I would have said. You will get things along the way which may worry you and if you do, just come on here, and say what it is, someone will always come back to help if they can. Remember there are no silly questions, so whatever bothers you ask away. All the best with your treatment.
Regardfs Ray.
Hi,
Sorry you have to find yourself here.
I found myself coughing more, but that was one of the symptoms that helped us find it. I used to lie flat to sleep but have been propped up since tonsillectomy in Jan. I also use a humidifier all night, might be worth a try.
Hope all going OK with radiotherapy and keep popping on with any questions.
Take care, Ronnie
Hello Ronnie, Thank you very much for that feedback I will certainly give it some thought.
If I may although today was only my second day of treatment I am starting to feel a tenderness just below my ears both sides. I am putting it down to the treatment but I met someone today in the waiting area who suggested to report everything you're not sure about. That seems sensible.
Take care and I hope you too get better soon.
Hi,
Yes definitely let the team know any changes, mine were really good and would sort prescriptions, etc as and when needed. It's also reassuring.
On the whole well now, get my PET CT scan results next week, so everything crossed. The pillows now help with lymph edema.
As you progress with RT always try and pre-empt next step of pain relief and ask by Thursday so you can have it ready for the weekend, mine were on hospital only prescriptions, so needed to collect by Friday to avoid 2hr round trip on a weekend.
This week might get tiring as you get into a routine. Rest assured the 6 weeks pass relatively quickly.
All the best, Ronnie
