I just thought I would join this group to say hi and find some support by  reading other people’s stories.  I am quite scared at the moment.  I go to the Royal Marsden on Monday to get my mask made etc.

  • Thankyou for that recommendation.  I spoke to radiotherapy people today and my CNS.  I was told to just sort something out! But nothing with oils I heard today, which I didn’t know.   My husband is just off to Boots to source some of everyone s recommendations.  Lizzie

  • I have a granddaughter too.  6 months old.  Best wishes. Lizzie

  • Hi Lizzie,

Wish you success  in finding the right cream.  Congratulations on your new granddaughter. I have five grandchildren, aged 15, 14, 11, 10 and 6.  So much comfort they are especially when I was going through the diagnosis and treatment.  It's a joy to be a grandparent.

Let me know what cream your husband managed to source.

    Best wishes

  • Hi. Sorry if I'm a bit late to the game. I used Flamigel RT, which you can get on prescription.  I also bought Strata RT which I bought online. It is pricey.  That's all I used. Washed in luke warm water. I had no problems with my skin excpt it got dark. At the end of treatment I used to wear a dressing to bed around my neck, more to stop the itching than anything.

Shampoo and conditioner with no parabens. I only wash my hair once a week and no blow drying for me. Hair loss wasn't too bad.

  • Thankyou.  I am in the process of buying a few things that people suggest.  I will look at Strata rt.  I asked my CNS for Flamigel but he wasn’t keen to recommend yet.  I usually wish my hair every day but I have been thinking about cutting down.  Have u used dry shampoo then maybe? But that could irritate too?   Had my radio today snd all went well.  I just haven’t put any creams on at all today.  My chemo went well.  No sickness and just eaten supper so all good. Best wishes.  Lizzie

  • Hi Lizzie I used to do my hair every day but in treatment stretched it ti 3 days. I don’t like dry shampoo for that reason  irritating.  I also didnt use  air dryer or any products in my hair   Including didn’t get my highlights done for 9 months.I lost the usual hair in a semi circle at back  but had grown it to shoulder length do it covered the hair loss. Due to chemo it thinned a little so after results day  I had a decent crop now it’s as thick as ever.
yes shampoos with no parabens helped.
Good radiotherapy ok snd chemo as well.

  • Hi Lizzie,

Glad treatment has gone well. I was ravenous after first 2-3 chemo sessions, down to the steroids

I used to wash hair daily and managed to stretch to 3 days during treatment. Now every 2-3 days. I find dry shampoo makes me itch at best of times. I have long hair, so tended to tie it up in a scrunchie as they are softer and kinder when chemo makes it thin. If my hair needed a quick freshen at the roots I put a bit of baby powder on and brushed it out, like dry shampoo.

I went 9 months without going to hairdresser thanks to covid & cancer. My CNS said I could go back to usual products & get my roots done at my 6 week clinic. Now trying styles to get through the inbetween stage as my bald patch grows back - a nice problem in the grand scheme! You'll get there.

  • Hi Lizzie,

You will find the cream that suits your needs, so don't worry.  Glad your treatment is going well.  I didn't wash my hair as often during treatment and I used baby shampoo.  I was okay with that.  I used a mild non fragranced body wash as well. Like Hazel, my hair fell out at the back, so I have had to let my hair grow a bit longer to hide it, but I have had my hair coloured and highlights as well.  It's still a bit thin, but is getting thicker as the weeks go by.

    Take care
