Hi. I'm new here & waiting for a diagnosis. My story began with a referral to ENT in May by my gp who only mentioned acid reflux to me. I had an endoscopy & was then booked in for a MRI which all happened pretty quickly. Rather naively I had no idea this was for suspected cancer until I read my own medical notes. Since then, the MRI showed something in my throat which I was told was likely to be cancer & also a nodule on thyroid. I have now had an ultrasound, more bloodwork and a panendoscopy.
The consultant didnt seem worried about the nodule, but since the op it says on my notes they did a biopsy on the thyroid as well as the cyst in my throat (which is below where my tonsils would have been).
I realise I have to be patient to find out whats going on but I am starting to get really quite worried. Dr Google is hard to ignore, & I don't understand how they could biopsy the thyroid nodule via a panendiscopy, I thought that would be a needle aspiration?
I have read a few posts on here which are really encouraging to read so thought I would post to see if anyone else is, or has been, in the same boat?
Thanks for reading..... at least England have just scored.

Hi Nele. Sorry to find you here but welcome.
You are right. Please do not put any faith in Google. Much of the information is inaccurate and alarmist. You will spend your time trying to find something that tells you that you're OK and drive yourself nuts. The places for advice are your medical team and forums like this one.
The thyroid can be reached with a needle to do a FNA easily via panendoscopy. Thyroid nodules are really common and lots of them are harmless but you can imagine that your surgeon would be negligent if he didn't sample it so try to put that to the back of your mind.
I had a panendoscopy where my whole aerodigestive tract was examined. They do really have a good look.
When do you have the results of the biopsy?

Thanks so much for the quick reply.
I had the panendoscopy 2 weeks tomorrow so I know I need to be patient. Yes, I am pleased he looked at the thyroid (as I would much rather they look at everything while I am blissfully our of it), i was just surprised as the consultant said to me that morning that they were not really interested in it after the ultrasound.
I will do my best to ignore Dr Google. This is a really helpful site to have found. I dont want to worry my family & I am quite good at parking things, but every now & then it is quite a scarey prospect.
To be scared is normal. Things are out of our control. We worry we have cancer and if we do we think it's going to kill us. It usually doesn't and our head and neck cancers are eminently treatable and curable. If you do have cancer you will feel a whole lot better once a treatment plan is in place and you have some sort of goal.
There are lots of us here who have survived the treatment and are thriving.
The cure is never a walk in the park and tests the best of us, but you will always find help, tips and support in these pages from people who have been there.
I'm two and a half years clear and living a full and happy life
Keeping my fingers crossed for you

Thanks for replying. I think you are right... I will feel much better when I know what Im dealing with, rather than worrying what might be. The consultant who did my op was lovely so I am hoping, if it comes to it, he will be invloved as I really trusted him.
Very inspirational to read things on this site..... I will stay away from Dr Google! Thanks again for replying.
