I am due to start radiotherapy, for skin cancer  I have all ready read a few posts which have covered some of my concerns. So thank you every one who is sharing. I hope that through my treatment journey I will be able to share and help support others.

  • Hi   and a warm welcome to the Online Community. It's good to that you've been able to read posts that have reassured you over your concerns. You will find so much support here as everyone has been where you find yourself now.

I'm going to suggest you join our Melanoma group where you will find others with the same type of cancer. I'm going to tag the Community Champion to welcome you as well.

Sending you all the best B x

  • Hi and a warm welcome from me too!

I feel a bit like a genie having had my lamp rubbed and appearing as if by magic Slight smile

I can see that MrsBJH has suggested that you join the melanoma group but as melanoma isn't usually treated by radiotherapy I hope you don't mind me asking what type of skin cancer you have? We also have a skin cancer group which covers non-melanoma skin cancers that might be more appropriate depending on what you tell me.

  • Hi  and thanks for getting back to me.

As you probably know basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer and accounts for over 80% of all skin cancers in the UK.

Surgery is the most common form of treatment to remove a BCC, and is what I had last week, but radiotherapy is also used. There has recently been someone in the skin cancer group who has recently had radiotherapy and I'm sure they'll be happy to share their experience of this treatment with you if you wanted to ask anything.

If you'd like to join us in the skin cancer group just click on the link I've created and then join and post in the same way as you did here.

It would be great if you could update your profile with your diagnosis and treatment so far as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
