Hi folks I have throat cancer and have had one of six rounds of chemo and next one starts tomorrow, might seem dumb but my beard stubble is painful to touch it’s like it’s growing inwards, it is falling out as when I pull bits it just comes away I have asked at the hospital but seems to be only me so far and has anyone else had similar problems

Hi Reidbo. What sort of chemo are you having and are you having radiotherapy?

Hello Reidbo. As far as I know Cisplatin can cause hair loss but not on the scale that some other chemo does. I think it's rare side effect.

Hi Reidbo,
Welcome to the group! I had cistplatin and proton beam therapy and i lost all the hair where the treatment was directed under the back of my hair and a significant amount over my head too. I had to have my thick, long hair cut short. The amount of hair I lost was shovking and very unexpected. The consultant says my side effects are very rare and could be from chemo, radiotherapy or possibly long covid as i had covid while undergoing treatment. I did read that hair follicles can become tender before hair falls out, so this could be what's happening to you.
Take care.
Lisa
Thanks L it’s actually fine now not bothered about the actual hair loss just curious as what to do as was very uncomfortable but most of it’s gone now, well any black hair follicles have gone so probably take deadish grey to slowly follow suit. Kr Reid
