Hi
Valentine's day 2021 I found a lump. I have HPV left tonsillar cancer.
I'm about to start 6 weeks radiation and chemo every 31 days.
Feeling nervous about my first day is an understatement.
Hi Valentine. Welcome to our little and select group. There are lots of people here who have survived what you are facing and are thriving. There are also others in a similar position and some in treatment so stay with us and somebody is around to give you a hand. No question is too daft so ask away.
Good luck for tomorrow. You shouldn’t get any discomfort for a few days at least and the RT starts making your mouth sore from around week three.
If the anti sickness drugs don’t work after your chemo tell the team. There’s something that works for everybody.
Best wishes
Dani

Hi Valentine,
I first noticed my swollen lymph node on 10th Feb and I the same ax you but on the right. My radiotherapy begins on 14th June and planned for 30 treatments. No chemo for me as I have been on immuno-suppressant drugs for the past year.
Let us know your progress as I will mine
Hi welcome to our small community. I am almost 3 years post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes. The treatment is hard recovery can be longish but hey I’m here living my life to the max. If we can help just shout out any questions one of us will always try to answer.
if I can do it anyone can I’m a self confessed wimp. H p v positive is an excellent markers as the tumour responds well to treatment. The first week is usually ok then towards end of week 2 the pain ramps up

Hi Valentine
My primary was in my right tonsil with 2 affected lymph nodes and I started my treatment 8.3.21 so 6 weeks post treatment now.
I fully understand how you are feeling, I was terrified that 1st morning of RT not knowing what to expect or what was coming but my medical team were fabulous and the people on this site were invaluable with their hints and tips.
I can finally say that I have turned the corner now. Managing the pain on just paracetamol and the pain is just 2 ulcers in my mouth which are hanging around a bit. My energy levels have been low but even those have picked up a little.
Bank Holiday Monday I was able to sit in a beer garden and drink water lol but it felt so good to get out of the house.
Do the nice things now and fill your boots with your favourite food because you won’t be able to eat much for a while. It does seem like a long journey but it doesn’t last forever honestly.
Wishing you the very best of luck
