Just don't feel myself anymore, feel a bit lost

  • Thus disease dies that to us. It’s a lot to take in and cope with. A lot of us suffer from depression and there’s no shame in seeking help from your GP. A short course of antidepressants can sometimes be just the thing that’s needed.
Why not try phoning the Macmillan support line on 08088080000

Its free and open seven days a week 8am to 8pm

There is also a really wonderful piece written about life after treatment by psychologist Dr Peter Harvey

    Remember you aren’t alone.
I’m sure others will be along with more advice so stick around

    Best wishes

  • Hi Adam

So glad you found our forum it has been such a help to me.

I am 8 years post cancer of my right lower jaw and one year post cancer of my left upper jaw. It can be a tough time and it takes a while to adjust to the changes in your life but you do get there and find the bright side of life again. I even managed a short holiday away not so long ago (although I live in Australia and Covid is not so severe here.)

It does help to have someone to talk to so hope you find the support you need here. If you feel really down don’t tough it out alone please go and see your G.P. everyone needs a little help from time to time.

  • Hi Adam and welcome to the forum.

I was diagnosed with base of tongue cancer in May 2018.  I had a neck dissection and robotic surgery to remove the tumour  in June of that year followed a few weeks later by radiotherapy.

I can understand you feeling a bit lost.  It's not easy having the diagnosis and then having to go through the treatment.  Head and neck cancer is still not widely known about in the community so it's difficult for friends and family to understand the side and late effects of the treatment and for some people those effects can change your life somewhat.  Hopefully making contact with other people who have been through a similar experience will help you in some way.

As has been suggested, please do seek advice from your GP and MacMillan if you think you may have depression.  It really is not unusual.

Have you been able to form a bubble with any family or friends?

    Take care.
