Still going through diagnosis, 47. Been having throat pain, earache, hoarse voice, etc on and off for a few months. Recently developed edema in hands and feet. Saw ENT doctor Nov, he couldn't see anything but to be sure referred me for MRI (will be forever grateful to him!) Got the fateful call at work  2 days later that I had malignant lumps in neck, was referred to head & neck clinic at hospital. Ultrasound, biopsy and CT scan suggested level 2 lymph node scc, probably originating in tonsils. Lump measured 2, 2.5cm. Had tonsils removed last week. Seeing consultant again this week, hopefully get full diagnosis and treatment plan.

  • Hi Ronnie and welcome to the forum

There are many of us who've received a similar diagnosis, been through the treatment and come out the other side so lots of advice and support should you require it.

Wishing you all the best when you see the consultant.

  • Hello Ronnie

I join the others in welcoming you to the group and so sorry you have had to find us.
Now there’s will be a short wait for the treatment to be planned after they have fine tuned your diagnosis.
This is a good place for support as many of us here have survived and  are now thriving.
I am almost 2 years out of treatment and living in splendid isolation with my husband on a small holding in Wales. Life has returned to some sort of normality ( Covid excepted) improvements to side effects continue and life is good.
Treatment is not a walk in the park but doable and the cancer is extremely curable.
Keep in touch and let us know how you get on

if you have the time and the inclination pop a potted history on your profile. It stops you having to repeat yourself and helps people answer your questions.
    Best of luck

  • Welcome and sorry to hear that you have joined our exclusive club.  Let us know how the meeting with the consultant goes.  There are multiple routes through a H&N cancer treatment plan and I am sure that between us we have probably covered all them so can give you some good advice if and when you need it.

  • Hi ronny.. everyone is anxious at this point and in sure covid is not helping but your journey has already started.. having had similar experience as I was diagnosed in September 2018 with tonsil cancer and lymph gland secondary cancer and having been through chemo and radiotherapy and returned to work full-time then I'm proof of the excellent treatment available on the NHS these days. hopefully you get a good prognosis but I do have some tips.

Try and stay away from Google...stick to this site as everyone on here has actually been through this

Always take a trusted person to consultant appt s as I found I only heard what I wanted to hear...so my wife was a great help here.

Try and remain positive... it's difficult but it really helped me through the harder times

Good luck and let us know how you are doing

  • Thanks Chas,

Letters have been saying have to go on my own, but last time was told my husband can come to clinic days. He's coming this week and I'm going armed with a notebook.

  • That's a great idea...its really difficult initially as you have no idea what to expect...much of the treatment you have no control so to help I tried to improve my fitness by walking several miles a day...I still do   .it helps the treatment if you are fit and gave me time to process what I was going through

Best of luck and any questions just ask
