I finished CRT for tonsil and lymph node cancer on 15th May. PET scan on 17th Aug showed complete metabolic response at tumour site but faint activity in level 3 node which was small and SUV 1.5.
I was reassured this was likely to be post radiation inflammation/ healing and to repeat scan in Nov. As I was due to start a course of PBM therapy for mild lymphoedema my scan was brought forward to 17th Oct. I’ve had a call this morning to say my 6 weekly appt has been brought forward to next Tuesday and to cancel the first week of PBM treatment as the consultant wants to see me first. The CNS was unable to tell me anything over the phone and I didn’t feel was able to offer any reassurance. She had spoken to the consultant this morning after my phone call yesterday to ask why my appointment had been brought forward.
Im now in a state of panic as there’s obviously some change on the scan otherwise surely I would have been told it’s ok to go ahead with the PBM.
I just don’t have a good feeling about this

Hi Ally
This will worry you but hopefully your consultant just has the results early. I know PET results are usually available to the referring clinician in three working days.
I had an avid PET and was convinced the treatment had failed but it hadn’t.
Fingers crossed for you
Hi Ally, I have tonsil cancer with lymph node like you. 27 months post treatment now. After Pet-CT scan showed clear in the head annd neck areas, they flagged up high uptake in left bowel. So two week urgent referral for colonoscopy, which was actually completely clear. Nothing found ‘despite several passes and positions’ lol…so sometimes these things happen. My way of thinking was - well if somethings going on in my body it will be there anyway no matter how much i think about it. Conversely if it’s flagged up then at least it will be investigated and followed up. Take care.

Thanks Dani
Felt such relief after being reassured about first scan and now feel such uncertainty again. I’m thinking what could have changed from a clear PET scan after 8 weeks other than increased activity in that node. However, it’s no good second guessing and I’ll be told next Tuesday.
Ally xx
