Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

I've just had a look at your earlier post which unfortunately got just the one reply. Are you in the UK? I ask because HBOT is not routine here though there are a few centres that do offer it under NHS auspices

If your oncologist thinks it might help go for it...I would be really interested in other's replies too as it's a subject not often mentioned here.

I hope somebody with experience pops in. Meanwhile I'll do a search of previous posts for you

I am recovering from second lot of radiotherapy and chemo beginning April this year ; Squamous cell cancer inside mouth , flap reconstruction and then two independent neck dissection. My lasting side effects sound very similar, I have trismus and cannot open mouth wide enough to eat,so still rig dependent ,and fibrosis around all of my neck . Progress is slow ,the treatment you mentioned, in what way (if it were available) are you hoping it will help . Thanks

Radiotherapy can cause progressive scarring, tissue death, and a lack of blood supply  months or years after treatment ends. HBOT targets these issues by promoting the growth of new blood vessels, increasing collagen production, and reducing inflammation.

Osteoradionecrosis (ORN):

HBOT is frequently used alongside surgery or dental extractions to stimulate bone regeneration and prevent bone death.

Soft Tissue Damage:

Radiation can cause chronic swelling, pain, non-healing ulcers, and fibrotic tissue stiffness in the face and neck. HBOT accelerates the body's natural wound-healing mechanisms.

Trismus

Scarring and fibrosis of the chewing muscles can severely limit mouth opening. HBOT can help improve flexibility and reduce tissue rigidity.

It comes with some potentially serious side effects.

Thanks for your reply, I also enjoy your other replies and information, re. HBOT Im in Ireland and it is covered here on the HSE (NHS Equiv). I will take it up in any case its 30 sessions so I will update after if any success.

Thanks for reaching out sounds like we are having similar experiences. The HBOT treatment is supposed to heal damaged tissue I will try it I'm not overly confident but will give it a go. Keep in touch.

I searched for you but there is precious little information here on HBOT. I know there is some but the web developers keep messing about with the search function. I know it's been asked about a few times here. Can you let us know how it goes and any info on your feelings about and experience on  the procedure would be truly helpful. Good luck. I hope it helps

PS. I did find a few posts in other groups but they seem to be talking about the type of HBOT offered for sufferers of MS which doesn't provide the high pressure deep-dive stuff does, the kind that has potential for HNC. Keep in touch if you feel up to it. 

First time posting, In Aberdeen we have the  Hyperbaric Medical Centre that was developed for the North Sea diving industry and on their website it also mentions treatment for osteoradionecrosis and soft tissue radiation injury.
