Hi I’m new here I was diagnosed with cancer of the Parotid gland in March 25. I subsequently had major surgery in May 25 to remove the tumour and the Parotid gland. I also had to have a facial nerve removed and a cable graft from my right leg to replace the nerve that had to be taken out. I also had 62 lymph nodes removed from my neck. I then had 33 fractions of radiotherapy at The Christie and then my first PET scan in Dec 25 which miraculously showed all clear. I had another PET scan in March 26 but this unfortunately showed 4 sub centimetre nodes on my lungs. A further PET scan in June 26 has now showed 8 nodes on my lungs all still sub centimetre and 3 lymph nodes 1 behind my collarbone and 2 on my lungs. This is now metastatic cancer from the original site and I have been told to expect a life expectancy of between 2-4 years. I am fit and well still going to the gym , eat healthy and work part time. I am 59 years old. I think I am going to be put on Androgen Receptor Therapy to start with which is basically a hormone blocker testosterone to be exact.
Is there anybody else out there who is going through a similar experience?
Hi Eldo sorry to hear that your cancer has returned . Off the top of my head I can’t think of anyone similar. But if you type parotid cancer there are several links it may be worth looking at. If you’re in the Uk your can also ask for a 2 nd opinion and be referred to the hnc reoccurrence unit at the Royal Marsden. There they gave a separate unit with excellent consultants snd access to new trials.
Sorry I can’t offer any more info, really hope you can get some treatment that gives you as long as possible, along side a good quality of life.
best wishes
