Rig Removal

Hi jako, it's great you are doing so well so early in your recovery. I think they do like to wait until you have had your post treatment scan, before removing the RIG. However, you could ask about it being removed as you are going on holiday, it only takes seconds to take it out and it heals very quickly.

I agree with Dani.  I purposefully kept mine in until the scan was clear.  I also went on holiday in the UK during that period.  As to flying I found my first flight (1 hour to Scotland) was difficult as I still had some lymphoedema in my neck and that swelled up.  However I have subsequently flown medium haul with no issues and plan a SE Asia trip soon.  Enjoy your holiday and a well deserved time of R&R.

Great news you're doing fine. 

I didn't have rig, I've had NG tube in and 4 weeks after radiotherapy finished I phoned my hospital to enquire about the removal. Nurse phoned me 2 days later and said to come in same day and she will remove it, which she did. So 4 weeks after ending treatment I had the tube removed.

As for holiday I have cancelled my one but only as it was so close to the end of my treatment and I was not feeling very well.

I finished my CRT in June 2023...went to Tenerife in Nov 2023 ...no problems... had a great time.

Mine was July and hoping to get to Lanzarote in Oct so not a massive difference 

Hi I had ng tube fitted taken out 3 weeks into recovery I could swallow enough ensures etc to maintain weight so with nurses permission I removed the ng tube. I flew tomSpain it was my hubbys 60  th birthday hence the trip this was week 8 of recovery for 3 weeks. This  was to our own apartment so in holiday but not  in hotel I couldn’t have coped  with that. I did try to eat out once that trio but the seasoning in everythjng was too much for me. I flew out again 2 days after my results in January’s so that was 19 weeks after treatment. I was ok ish going out but again ate in the  apartment as I could control what  i was  eating.

Remember you have to declare the cancer for 5 years  so shop around for travel insurance. I got an annual long stay policy from staysure which 8 years ago was around £400 which allowed me to extended trios a year max if 85 days each trip. 
I also went away with my oncologist permission
