Hi all.
I finished radiotherapy for head and neck cancer about 8 weeks ago.
Had loads of side effects, but lately felt I am almost back to normal so decided to go back to work.
Starting on Wednesday and it is staged return.
I the last 2 weeks the skin that was treated with radio swelled. Literally every millimeter of it, nowhere else.
I am doing some gentle exercises found in cancer research,in case it's lymphoedema, but only just started them.
Another strange thing is that my scalp started to tingle as well.
I don't have any other problems, I feel well. I helped my husband with living room renovation and renewed our living room door by myself.
I am also reducing oxycodone further, and had tingling in other parts of the body when reduced dose few weeks ago. Could that be it?
I will speak to my oncologist but the appointment is in 2 weeks time.
Maybe some other of you had similar problems and could calm my nerves until the visit?
I would appreciate it.
All the best
Izzy.
Hi Izzy,
It's amazing that you are feeling so well. I am 10 weeks post treatment and thinking of returning to work end of September but I am still feeling too tired and feel I might need more time. I am also still not able to eat properly as the food tastes bad so I am drinking Ensures.
Interesting what you are saying about swelling of your skin. I've had a strange sensation on my neck since the RT, as if the skin is thicker than before and a bit numb. I still have a bit of burning feeling there sometimes although the skin looks normal. I wonder if this is just the RT side effect. I also have tingling in my lower legs/feet but i think it's neuropathy. I don't think yours is related to that.
Thanks Rose.
I also think tingling is side effect of radiotherapy.
In my case might be also lowering opioids, first time I have tried to do it same tingling as on my scalp appeared on my legs, so very similar just different area.
It is a bit of my own fault, as I am trying to not to take breakthrough doses of oxycodone, as soon as I take just 2.5 ml the tingling stops.
I think if it would be one of those two things at once I would cope better.
Tingling on scalp and neck swollen all around at once and painful is a bit much.
I think I would like to stay off work for a bit longer, but financially we are a bit stretched and my work said they will help me settle down slowly and will give me easy tasks. So fingers crossed.
All the best x
Hi Izzy,
It does look that the tingling is related to oxycodone. I hope there will be someone here with a similar experience regarding this and the swelling.
I'm sure you will be Ok at work as they are so supportive. My work is the same and I feel that it might be helpful to start having a different daily routine.
Wishing you all the best too x
