Is anybody wearing upper dentures after radiation? If you have are they ok with not much saliva?????

  • Hi Gregory. I was left with five lower teeth and no uppers. Post radio/chemo I got fitted with dentures at the local NHS Dental Hospital they liaise with the oncology department. The dentures look okay and I can smile again, they’re a reasonable fit and when time went on a little more saliva helped keep the uppers in particular in place. It took about a year with a competent student (with supervision) doing the business. I’ll be honest I can only have soups and soft foods when out and about - without any kind of fixative). I might have a word with my own dentist about getting a new pair but at the minute I’m getting by. Just grateful I’ve passed the two year mark. Keep well…

  • Thanks my dentist and oral surgeon are going to try to save a few upper teeth to have upper partial with metal clasp but if they can't save upper teeth then denture is my only option hope the best for you im 5 years out from vocal cord cancer but teeth are not good  good luck hope you get new better fitting in the near future
