Hi all.
Just going into 4th week of bilateral radiotherapy and chemotherapy for throat and neck.
The whole treatment to date has been alongside severe flare up of sciatica, which is being managed with nerve blockers but the throat pain has ramped up this weekend.
Im still on paracetemol for mouth with numbing mouthwash and will have to wait until my review tomorrow. Ice cream and pops are great but they are becoming a challenge. Does anyone have any helpful tips with alleviating sore throat to get me to review at all? Many thanks xx
I think the best you can do until tomorrow in the absence of any heavyweight pain relief is to mix the paracetamol with ibuprofen stagger them so that you have a cycle where they are not taken together so it maintains a sort of level of relief. I found paracetamol taken about 30 minutes before I wanted to eat worked well for me at this stage. After being prescribed on my consultant agreed with me that in general the numbing mouthwashes are a waste of time. Very short lived and designed not to numb the throat otherwise you could end up choking. They work mainly on the mouth...
Tomorrow don't be scared to take opioids if offered them. Nullification of pain is one of the keys to getting through this and heading into a good recovery.
I had back pain for a week during ChemoRadiotherapy ... nightmare... I could barely get on and off the table...Morphine slow release tablets helped immensely with the throat and mouth pain... alongside Oramorph... contact your CNS ... they will be able to help... don't suffer in silence.
