So I’m now in week 5 and down to single digits for radiotherapy after today’s blast.
Weeks 1 to 3 I had Cisplation given each Monday but after 3 session is absolutely buckled to the point I could barely get out of bed, I didn’t for a four days.
I posted before about stopping the Cisplatin which I did for week 4. After discussions with Oncologist he suggested the last 2 weeks on Carboplatin which is going in as we speak.
My question is did anyone else switch and how did you find it. I’m worried about being floored like I was before. Thanks
I refused Cisplatin and insisted on Carboplatin. I can't say what the switch was like, but I generally found the Carboplatin easy to take and recover from. I had 5 of 6 sessions of Carboplatin. The only reason one was cancelled was that they could see the tumour responding and did not think I needed the last dose. I had no sickness, hiccups or anything like has been reported as side effects. The biggest issue I had was eating around 2 days after an infusion when my throat just did not want to know for around 24 hours - after that I was OK again.
Both chemos are supplementary to the RT and help sensitize the cells to the RT. Cisplatin in marginally more effective, but probably no so that anyone outside of a trials team would notice in real life.
