Recurrence

I’m 7 weeks into recovery from CRT for tonsil cancer HPV positive.  I’m starting to feel quite anxious as there seem to be quite a few people on this forum who have had a recurrence of the disease.
I felt positive in the fact that HPV driven disease  has a higher cure rate but beginning to question it now.

  • No point in worrying about it, we have been treated and the expectation is a 90%+ cure rate...day to day worrying only brings more problems...be vigilant and try to enjoy life...we have been through a lot.

  • Try not to worry

There are around 4000 cases of oropharyngeal cancer diagnosed every year. This community is self selecting remember and is not a true reflection of the country situation

Most people come here with there fears, get cured and go away

Your chances at over 90% are excellent.
I’m over seven years clear and pretty well.

  • I have always been told that recurrence is not that common. But there is always a possibility.
I stay positive and hope it won’t come back, but it does make you more vigilant. I’m 2.5 years post treatment and feel good, so fingers crossed.

Focus on getting better that’s the best way to channel your energy. Worrying may hamper your recovery if you get too stressed
