Hi. So last week I had my 3rd weekly cisplatin. For the last 3 days I’ve been bed bound and not eating or drinking much. I tried to use my feeding rig but the reflux made me violently sick which has really aggravated my throat.
im feeling a little better today and going to try and eat something but i wondered if anyone missed the chemo or stopped it as there is no way im getting it again tomorrow

  • Hi. I didn’t have any, thank heavens, but plenty of patients here reported not finishing the whole course. It makes very little difference percentage wise to your chances. Maybe 1/2 %?

I’m so sorry you feel so awful. I suspect your oncologist wouldn’t let you continue anyway. Hugs

  • Thanks Dani. That makes me feel better about sacking it off haha

    1. Good morning Jako, so sorry to hear you are struggling with your treatment. My husband had 30rds of RT and 2rds of Cisplatin, His cicles where 8hrs long each, + his daily RT afterwards, (some have their CT spread over a longer period of time, but than shorter sessions.) How are yours? My hubby wasn't too bad with sickness, the sickness tablets he was given, he didn't need at the end. He felt very tired at the end of the day so. Speak to your medical team, weigh out the pros and cons. Will stopping make any difference to the outcome? Best wishes what ever you decide. Fellow wife Mel x
  • Mines 6 weekly sessions and I’ve completed 3. I’ll speak with them tomorrow but definitely not doing it tomorrow else I’ll be hospitalised

  • Hi Jako

I should have had 6 weekly sessions of cisplatin alongside 30 RT.  I managed 5 as my neutrophil count was too low to continue. The oncologist said that the RT was the most important part of the treatment not the chemo and wasn’t in the least concerned about stopping it. He said the majority of people don’t complete the full course.
    Take care.

  • Thanks that’s great to know. Hope you are doing ok

  • Just a thought, but have you been prescribed Lansoprazole for the reflux?
I didn’t have a feeding tube but had terrible reflux from beginning of week 3. I was prescribed Lansoprazole and never had any reflux whilst taking it.

  • Yeah I’ve got some lanzaprozile but not taken it yet. TBH I’ve not been able to think about anything last few days

  • Hi,

I had a different chemo but I learned that a couple of days post the infusion I would be in difficulty eating for 2 days.  It is not nice at all.  I did learn to manage it and fortunately my chemo was stopped at 5 out of 6 sessions due to the cancer responding well to the treatment.  I was so glad to stop.  As others have said it is unlikely to cause and long term detriment if you stop now.

  • I was bumped into hospital straight from the radiotherapy table...lost a shedload of weight and was pretty ill with the chemo side effects...spent 14 days in the ward but got sorted out....not an easy treatment ...it works though.
