Hi Everyone! I finished my treatment Radiotherapy for throat cancer at the end of November, but now my swallowing has changed and I am due to have a. X-ray. To find out why! I’m terrified it’s come back.
Hi. None of on here are clinical experts, but we are all expert patients. With that in mind I think it is probably unlikely that your cancer has returned, although only the clinical diagnostics can tell your that. Most of us experience long term effects with swallow and those effects can and often do change over time. Some weeks I can easily swallow a particular food, a week or so later it's much more difficult.
Hopefully the swallow problem is just that. I guess you had swallow exercises given to your by the hospital and you are doing them??
Hi, I quite agree with Peter, the swallow test can be for anything, I've had 2 over the past 6 years for check ups as to anything can be done for certain swallowing problems they are definately not for cancer checks, mine was that I felt liquids were getting stuck or took a minute or so to pass through and sure enough there is a lip before entry into my food pipe but I have to live with it as after furtehr investigation to change the structure now may have effected my voice and they disn't want to proceed
It's a good test not uncomfortable, if it's the same as mine you will stand in front of the camera and they will give you different foods and drinks and they video it going down, you may also be a ble to watch it yourself whilst it's happening
Hope this helps and that all goes well but again as Peter says one day I can swallow something next no, just always have water on hand to help it pass down
Take care
Tony
