All done for dad 6 hours in surgery going to the high dependency unit.....thankgod today's done.

Dad parotid gland cancer

  • Best wishes to your dad. It is the start of the road to recovery but it can take a while. Take it one day at a time as there are a few hurdles to get over still.

Sending your dad and you positive thoughts.

  • Pleased to hear that the op is over with now. High dependency is the normal after as they like to have 1:1 with a nurse. I woke up in ICU but was chucked out rather quickly  Joy

Wishing your dad a speedy recovery  Heart️️

  • Dad now on the ent ward. All the tumour out.Hes got a numb face and ear and a slight droop of his lip due to sacrificing a small nerve.Theybsay he'll need radiotherapy but no chemo.Just glad he's ok ,talking and eating.Everyone at Leeds General were amazing .

  • Dad still in hospital he's lost all his strength ,plus his oxygen levels are all over the place so he's been on oxygen on and off to try and help, they are monitoring things, but due to his AF he's probley been like this for years but no one knew. Then he had a blood test and the infection markers were slightly raised so he's had to have intravenous antibiotics ,but his scar is healing well.Dad is feed up and just wants to go home which I guess is a good sign.He is eating soft foods and drinking ok.
I think this realistically is going to be a long road to recovery especially at 79 with all his underlying health issues.

I'm wrecked too ,my mum's stressed and worried.....

  • It is sort of good that he is hankering after getting home.  At least his spirit is still there.  That, along with keeping hydrated and nourished, will do him good.

Both you and your mum need to try and find something to relax you.  Looking after yourselves is as important as looking after your dad.  Maybe a spa day whilst he is safely tucked up in hospital?? All the best for his recovery.
