Hello,
I will start my chemo radiotherapy next week after completing 3 cycles of chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer T2 N1.
I was told that the recovery will last for 2 months but from the posts here I see that really depends on individual circumstances.
I would be grateful if you could let me know when you were able to return to work, after the treatment finished. it looks to me now that returning after 2 months seem very unlikely. I would be able to work from home at first instance and it's an admin job.
I really don't know how I will cope, the chemo was hard and the chemo radiotherapy seems so harsh, at some point I will get the peg fitted that I'm also dreading but I see it's a life saver.
Thank you
Rose
Good evening Rose, going back to work after treatment is probably different for individuals. Your body will let you know. Two months I think it's a bit too early so, your body is probably still recovering from treatment. My husband works in telecommunications. He started going back to work after 5mths,for light duties. Gradually he went back to normal work loads. Give yourself time to heal first. Hugs. Mel x
I was fortunate in that I was retired when I was receiving Chemoradiotherapy, I would not have been able to go back to full time work for at least 6 months... maybe part-time... depends on the type of work and how stressful your employment is...we are fragile after treatment... mentally and physically.

I would echo what Michael has just written. I too am retired and six months would have been my aim, and phased return even then

Hi Rose. I had radiotherapy only and no chemo plus was not reliant on a feeding tube during my radiotherapy as it was not aimed at my throat so my swallow was not affected. Consequently I had it 'easier' (although it was not easy at all) than those who had chemoradio. In spite of this I was extremely fatigued and it took me a long time to get back to normal eating. I did get back to work 3 months after finishing my radiotherapy on a phased return. I was an occupational therapist so very hands on work. For those who have chemoradio and a feeding tube it would take much longer to return to work. Everyone is different but I would aim for 6 months as the others have suggested.
