Has anyone had teeth removed After radiation, and using the pento process for removal can't do do HBO treatments so pento process then using my own blood during removal with this new procedure anyone have this?????
Hi Gregory
My OH is 15 months post RT now, but in April just gone had two top front teeth extracted, and this week two fillings, also on the top row. He's got another appointment in early October for three fillings on the bottom row at the front.
All his work is being done at the LDI by dentists who deal with head and neck patients as his own dentist made it clear he wouldn't touch him. All work has been carried out in the conventional way.
His initial dental checks in late 2024 pre surgery were all positive but it's been agreed the RT damaged his teeth.
Take care xxx
It's interesting that his NHS dentist won't touch him. Mine does work on me, but I first had to get cleared by the hospital oral surgeons that they were happy for x-rays and fillings to be done. Anything more intrusive then I suspect it will be back to the hospital.
Hi Gregory.
Yes, OH's treatment didn't seem to be any different than for other patients but the maxilofacial guy did take a look around his mouth.
I asked about ORN but I guess that's a risk that needs to be taken, otherwise OH would end up toothless! xxx
Hi Peter.
Well, OH had a TIA in May 2023, but at his check-up a few months later with his usual dentist, he was told any invasive treatment would have to be done in a dental hospital. After diagnosis for cancer we knew his dentist would run a mile so that was the last time he saw him.
OH's dentist wasn't NHS and all treatment had to be paid for.
Now that he's under the dental hospital I told them about his private dentist's attitude and they found it extremely odd.
Anyway, once OH's treatment is complete they're going to find him an NHS dentist and much closer to home, hopefully, as we don't have transport and his current one is a right old traipse away.
Hope you're doing well fella xxx
Hi Gregory Just wanted to commiserate. I had three teeth extracted three weeks ago. I am 21mos finished treatment (33 and total about 69 grays) I am in US. No my oral surgeon did not suggest the pento process. He has handled some patients with radioosteonecrosis and seems conversant in our issues. He used my own blood with the blood platelets as others here were discussing. My healing has been so far (they say) right on the normal healing schedule. The first week was pretty miserable but certainly with enough NSAIDs manageable. Now at three weeks I had stitches out and I feel pretty good. Begins the waiting for longterm healing.
Am sending you good karma! You will feel better just getting past it.....
