Hi all.

Start having my treatment tomorrow,  not going to lie I'm anxious.  Still having pain with  peg feed, it's been a flippin nightmare.  Can just about walk upright after 10days. Dreading trying to lie flat on treatment table. Think I'll ask one of the nurses have a look at it while I'm there.

Im now struggling to chew last few days, feel like it's progressed since diagnosed.which is stressing me out. I know it seems a daft question but what did everyone wear top half. Or do they give you a gown,?

  • Hello Tracy, so sorry to hear that you ate still in pain with your PEG,it should have settled by now. Remember it's only for a few minutes on that table, close your eyes and pretend to go to sleep. That is what my hubby did. After a few sessions it should became normal if that makes sense. Just wear normal close,however,loose/low neck tops would be best. It's easy said then done, but try to be relaxed, just let them do their thing, You can do it. Thinking of you tomorrow. Hug Mel x

  • Yes it's a good idea to have the radio team have a look at the PEG site...they will have seen plenty and can advise of any issues...my CNS often had a chat with me during CRT sessions...any problems were discussed and actioned.

  • Hi.

I wore strappy vest top under anything else I was wearing do straps can be pulled down.

They put something under your knees so you're not completely flat. Let them know you have pain.

Have you done the one turn thing with you peg yet? That will loosen things & hopefully pain will ease.

Any day you are there and have questions regarding anything, ask. You'll be scheduled once a week to have a review but sometimes you can't wait.

    Good luck with everything.

  • Its  so sore , the district nurse messed with it on day 2 ,had trouble  with it since. Have had to have it checked at hospital last week due to her but surely this level of pain isn't normal .

  • It should have settled down by now, I had a couple of site infections which required antibiotics ...had to attend a local cancer triage unit for a diagnosis and treatment...also had a couple of fungal infections which required a mild steroid cream...I was told that this was pretty normal...advance and rotating the PEG will be nigh on impossible if you are in pain

  • Hi Becky had it done 11 days ago.has eased since first put it .but seems to have plateaued  not getting any better.  I'm wondering if it's got a yeast infection.  I loosened it slightly this morning ,so I can actually stand upright now.  The Abbott nurse came and checked it after the district nurse had changed the balloon because she shouldn't have changed it for 2 weeks.it had only been fitted 2 days And the specialist who fitted it rang and asked me to go back in Aintree hospital so she could check it.  So she wiggled the tube in and out and said it seemed fine.

Maybe I'm just one of those unlucky ones who reacts badly to them.

    Thanks x

  • I know I'm dreading it

  • it seems a daft question but what did everyone wear top half.

I wore a crop top and slipped the straps down.

  • My  PEG insertion site was swabbed to confirm the presence of infections then treated...this was done in cancer triage...infections were highlighted during chemo days...I was sent to the cancer triage unit for investigation after chemo...not allowed home until the swab results were confirmed and antibiotics given.
