Hi all,

Just a quickie. I'm going for my dental check on Wednesday morning and mask fitting in the afternoon.  At the dental check will do any treatment there and then if I need it, or will I need to go back. I'm wondering if I can drive to both appointments rather than go in the transport provided

Thanks Tracy x

  • Hi Tracy

After mask fitting they don't like to change anything in your mouth that might alter the fitting.

Are your teeth in OK nick? Hopefully you won't need anything done.

Is the transport for you alone or are you sharing, ie picking up others?

Sorry that has probably been no help at all.

  • Hi Dani,

I do look after my teeth ,regular dentist and 6 monthly hygienist appointments. I have wisdom teeth and one on the effected side does have a deep pocket  which the hygienist always looks after. But other than a big or a few deep fillings I'm OK.

Re transport i will have to call them as I have 2 appointment letters both saying ,transport is arranged.  So I need to make sure they know I don't need picking up twice , both appointments are in same vacinity.

But  im thinking I could drive myself instead, ?

    Thanks

    Tracy

Yes, why not. If they take any teeth out they might not make your mask that day till any swelling has gone down. If that wisdom tooth is on the side of the cancer they might well take it out. These hospital dentists don't mess around. I had to have a wisdom tooth taken out after treatment and it was out in 10 seconds. Such skill!

    • Morning Lotty, I have to agree with Dani. My husband drove himself to both of these appointments. With them being at the same place,Clatterbridge Liverpool, we had transport offered aswell for all his treatments, was only when the treatment started to kick in, we took advantage of the service, the downside was that waiting time especially at the end were long and sometimes we had to share. All the best. Mel x
  • I had mine out there and then

All. My back molars  plus 2 other damaged

Normally should of been a 2 visit but she did it in one as my appointment had  been push back due to me having my staging and treatment meeting at same time.

My fitting was a week later due to swelling.

Ps. I drove to all appointments

  • Yes ,that's what I was thinking .I'm going to cancel the transport  and drive there myself instead

    Thanks xx

  • Thanks Mel

Yes I'm thinking the same, while I can I'll  drive myself . Do you think I'll be ok on day 1 as I have chemo and radiotherapy  ,not sure how I'm going to feel?

  • Hi , thanks.

did you drive to all Rt treatments ? Or just pre treatment appointments?

  • I think you can bank on driving the first two weeks but after then as you get more tired and pained you’ll find it difficult. Morphine makes you sleepy and driving would be dangerous.

  • Thanks Dani. I was thinking of driving first two weeks then rely on transport for a week , last 3 weeks ,hubby will take time off and friends will help.  I don't fancy sitting about after treatment  feeling poorly waiting for transport in the latter weeks.  Knowing my luck my treatment will be done early in the day and I'll be sat till 6pm waiting to go home .
