Hi,
I finished chemo radiotherapy for hypopharangeal cancer in early November, and so far it looks like I won’t be getting a three month scan before my next oncology appointment in two weeks.
Should I be worried? How important is this?
I have been asking my nurse team to chase this for me but so far, nothing doing.
Thanks in advance :)
Hi PeanutDriver
A good few if not most oncologists now think 12 weeks is far too early to be doing a post treatment PET because the scan can’t easily differentiate between inflammation and residual cancer. I know mine would have liked to scan at six months or even a year but was mindful of patient anxiety.
My scan was at 16 weeks.
Just bring it up at your next review and don’t worry

Ho PeanutDriver my pet ct scan was week 17-18 my oncologist won’t do the. Any earlier due to hot spots still being around. The later the better is their view many would lie to leave 6 months but understand the patients angst.
ask at next appointment
best wishes
