Hi Everyone

Just wondering about the thoughts on cisplatin? I am starting treatment on monday

30 rounds or RT

6 doses of cisplatin

Concerned about the reviews with the side effects? All help would me much appreciated

  • Cisplatin is the most ototoxic of the platinum chemo drugs. Carboplatin is less so but marginally less effective.
Honestly if you are having six doses  then each dose will be much smaller than folks having only two and each dose less toxic.
Your team has worked out the best regime for you but you just have to tell them if you develop tinnitus and you can stop the treatment. The whole course adds around 6% to cure rates.

  • What TNM are you?

It would help if you could put your diagnosis in your profile if you have time.

  • Hello there, my husband had only two rounds of cisplatin. The days were long about 8hrs, till you gone through everything you needed. He had to have  two drips for his kidneys, one before and one after the cisplatin. With cisplatin potentially being agressive to kidneys, they made him drink alot of water aswell. Treatment itself wasn't too bad,he started to feel drained a day or two after, also he didn't use the sickness meds. It took about three days to feel better. Having said this, everyone reacts different to treatment. All the best. Fellow wife Mel x

  • I had 3 sessions of cisplatin which were stopped and just had the radiotherapy. My kidneys weren't happy bunnies.

Had good results still from radiotherapy the chemo just give the radio a boost but not the main treatment the radiotherapy is.

    Hope that helps a little

  • Antiemetics will help with any sickness issues but they come with their own side effects... don't be afraid to ask for a change of meds if you are unhappy... watch out for hiccups if you are given dexamethasone for sickness... restless leg syndrome is another annoying side effect for some.
