I posted a couple of weeks ago regarding my newly diagnosed cancer and got a great response and advice about my worries.
I had my appointment yesterday for my mask fitting, which I managed even though I am claustrophobic. Problem was in the CT scan after when it had cooled down.
After trying a couple of times to get through the scan I had to leave as I had a complete meltdown and couldn't wear the mask any longer and exhausted myself from crying.
They have prescribed a sedative as I have to return tomorrow to do the CT scan and there needs to be a re-fit as it wasn't fitting my chest area properly.
I am now at a low point after being so positive and dreading tomorrow and the 6-weeks of treatment as really don't know how I am going to get through it
I feel so embarrassed and babyish but don't know what to do - any advice which helped anyone in a similar situation would be great?
Try with the sedatives and ask them to cut eyeholes in.
practice lying on your bed with a towel over your head. Play a couple of tracks of music you enjoy and that will probably get you through the few minutes of treatment. You can take your music in for the radiographers to play. It gets easier as you go on with just the first few times being the hardest before you understand that nothing awful happens.
Remember your radiographers can see you all the time and can stop the machine as soon as you raise your hand and be inside with you in seconds.

Hello Nanzo, my husband was the same at the beginning of his treatment. It slowly began to become normal and he got used to it. He 'pretended ' to go to sleep, luckily the music they played in the background, made it easy. Hopefully it will get easier for you.All the best, fellow wife Mel.
Hi Nanzo Agree with everything Dani says I put a time on at side of my bed for 12 min s and practises taking my head for a walk or a bike ride I even took my mind off it by taking my mind round the supermarket as a distraction did the weekly shop.
take the sedatives theres a few on here that did snd many didn’t need them by week 2. Get eyeholes cut and I personalised my mask have her a name and spoke to her every session saying that she was my first line of attack getting g rid of this cancer. The radiotherapy team were very patient with me. You can do it as it will save your life
