T2N1M0 HPV diagnosis. I opted for surgery which was performed on 18th Nov 25. Neck dissection to remove right handside neck lymph nodes and my right tonsil where the tumour was. I'm still experiencing some post op arm and collarbone pain and movement restrictions but on the whole fine. Only 3 days in hospital, biggest shock was the size of the scar and the drain but all healing lovely now and really not that noticeable. My question for discussion is the need for radiotherapy after.
I wasn't convinced by any facts given to me that it was necessary, despite consultant recommending I did have it. This is even though he said, after the surgery, there was probably no more cancer cells in my body. The margins following surgery were good and showed no cancer. The short term and long term side effects of Radiotherapy just didn't seem worth experiencing and seriously affect quality of life. So I haven't pursued having radiotherapy. No idea on any follow up monitoring as yet.
