I am sorry to ask because I had written it down and lost the paper, any recommendations for my mouth, it feels like the bottom of a cage, not sure what was in the cage but it couldn't have been good.  The taste is just horrible.  trying sips of water and that isn't making much hedgeway.

Any thoughts please, pretty please

Thanks

Lee

  • Hi Lee

Almost each of us is different when it comes to what works so sometimes it is experiment until you find what works - and then a week or so later it may be something different that works.  That's the nature of this...

For me I found that a particular sparkling water worked well at clearing my mouth and tasting something like water.  Only one type worked for me!  Since I am now almost 2 years post treatment I am able to chew gum which works well at getting saliva working to a degree alongside keeping hydrated.  At night (and occasionally during the day) I use Biotine gel to coat and protect my mouth from drying out too much, but I have to reapply it a couple of times in the night.

Others have used slightly flat coke and Xylimelts at night (I don't get on with them).  I am sure some other ideas will be posted soon.

BTW my mouth constantly tastes like the morning after a hard night out.  I can mask it but it is always there.  Sorry if that is your future as well!

  • A dry mouth is unfortunately the new normal for most of us, Xylitol chewing gum helps some of us, ALDI and LIDL brands are very good.

My go-to for thirst quenching was Guinness alcohol free, one of the first things I could tolerate, I could actually taste it, became my first real pleasure after finishing CRT.

  • Hi I’m 7 years post chemo radiotherapy for tonsil cancer. I use xyimelts every night for me they work very well for me . We have sadly to buy them as not  on Prescription. I get them from an online company hope to sleep we can get them vat free. By indication I g on payment page we are /were cancer patients.
In the early days plain soda water Tesco worked for me let the bubble go a little or flat Diet Coke. Keep,on top,of oral hygiene use tee pee sticks to clean in between mout and I get bioxtra mouthwash on script plus yiu should use duraphat toothpaste for live plus dentist every 3 months. Yes it gets expensive but we have to be vigilant

The taste like bottom of a budgie birdcage takes time to go away. Sugar free gum orbital in blue rub inches most of day which keeps salivary glands working

  • Good evening LMRN151cb49. Some of it may be because your salivary glands were affected by the treatment or surgery, which can cause dry mouth. They should recover and return to normal in time, i also found mouthwash helped to freshen up the mouth and break down the mucus, as that is what you can taste. I  use Corsodyl or a chemist's equivalent, which you can water it down if it's too strong. As the others have said, soda, coke and ginger can also help, hopefully your mouth will begin to feel better in time. Take care.
