Can't get a petscan for between 4 and 8 weeks  or

Unless I travel 5 hrs each way

My care team seem to think its not needed even though they put me forward .

But my thinking is yes my throrax was clear

But as its going to be at least 4 or 5 weeks before treatment starts

Does it not give the possibility  that it may move from a node ?

Or am I worrying over nothing

Thoughts ?

  • Hi

You aren't worrying over nothing , It's normal to be concerned about these things if they aren't explained.

HPV oropharyngeal cancer rarely spreads beyond the lymph nodes so hold onto that. When it does it's thought that it does so early in the disease before it's even discovered in your neck then hides to reappear later so there is nothing you can do. The treatment for disease in both areas is different. You would get your throat sorted first anyway.

You will have a PET 12 to 16 weeks after you have finished.

I never had a PET till one was prescribed after treatment to see if the radiotherapy had worked.

The bottom line is how much would it reassure you to have one or can you put the fear away and just get on with getting fixed?

  • My personal thoughts are crack on with what I have, then deal with anything else afterwards

My main concern was the time scale

Something is broken if the wait in north wales is upto 8 weeks

Dentist appointment tomorrow so hopefully decision on extraction
