Dental replacement

Hi

I have always suffered with bad teeth due to grinding so atm I only have 8 left.

My oncologist has stated that removal of remaining will probably be the case due to condition, so I'll have no teeth (at the min I have a partial top palate) plus 8 of own.

I was due more dental work by my own dentist before my diagnosis

My question really is will I need to be toothless until I've recovered or will I have dental work during the recovery stage or beforehand other than removal..

Many thanks

  • No thing will be done till you e recovered and even then it should be done by the hospital not your own dentist

You have a sort of golden year after the first year of healing when invasive treatment can be done with less risk of osteoradionecrosis but you will have to really push for this  Have a chat about implants

  • Good evening, Nickr. I totally agree with Dani that they will not do anything until you have fully recovered and everything has settled down. I had to have my lower jaw reconstructed, so i lost all my lower teeth and had to wait 18 months before they made me a set of dentures for my lower jaw, but you should not have to wait as long as that, as your jaw will be left intact. Thankfully i still have quite a few of my top teeth that managed to survive the radiotherapy and surgery. Additionally, as Dani mentioned, work on your teeth/dentures will be performed by a specialist/restorative dentist at the hospital, rather than your regular dentist. Wishing you all the best, take care.

  •  Ty for your reply

My appointment  is with the hospital dental team ,

And obviously  they are better skilled in this than my normal dentist

Just my bad luck run continues   as I've just paid for a near full top set of dentures lol.

But I'll know better answers on the 26th

Hopeful of a good outcome .

    Ty again

  • Hello , I have the same problem. I have been trying hard to save my teeth and at this moment 4 are broken, roots are still in. My dentist sent me to maxfacial surgeon. Seems like they were not going to do anything, sent me to on other appointments with another consultation, still waiting for appointment. The pain is awful and I can’t function at all. I rung my dentist, they will send email to hospital to chase my referral. I am going to see my GP , can’t get any relief from morphine

  •

Have you tried going straight to your oncologist via your CNS?

  • Hi , yes I did. They are aware of this and I rung my nurse this morning. Awaiting the call back. I have app with my GP this afternoon. I can’t work, I am doing face to face work at mental hospital . I did not have much sick time during my treatment -T4N2M0 cancer . But now I am feeling like I can’t do anything…

  • It took me a year after my op before I got my dentures. It was a bit more complicated as I needed more than just dentures as also needed a bracket attached to implants for them to attach to. Bit more to the story but it did take time. It did affect my eating and drinking and I had to develop new ways of managing that. Then when I got my dentures had to adjust again to new ways of eating. Just can't rush things so patience is required unfortunately.

  • Interesting  you had implants

Much easier than top and bottom dentures .
