2 benign solitary fibrous tumours in neck- operation was scheduled for October 2025 - day before it was cancelled as no i.t.u bed for me...but as we were already down in Birmingham (long way from home) I had an up to date mri and ct scan....then back home.
2weeks later had a follow up.clinic appointment-but had a ct with dye and was asked to lower trousers (seemed odd as tumours in neck) - went into consultant afterwards,he said that a previous scan showed 3 spots in my lungs...
So now on reading letters from consultant to my gp and myself it looks like I now have to have a biopsy on these things in my lungs....also on reading my neck tumours have grown and are compressing my vertebral artery which is obviously a cause for concern..
I have a great husband who helps me deal with all this, also family and friends....but I'm so so scared...
Would appreciate any thoughts x x
Do you have a nurse you can contact? Or do you have consultant’s secretary details? I think you should press for an appointment straight away.
Your vertebral arteries supply blood to your brain but they are connected inside the brain to your carotid arteries. The upshot is that interrupting blood supply via vertebral shouldn’t have any effect as there is a collateral circulation from your neck. At least that should ease part of your concern. Nevertheless press the hospital for an early appointment. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

Hi thanks for your reply and reassurance..
When I had my other tumour removed in 2009 I had a dedicated oncology nurse...but this hasn't been mentioned this time...I do feel in limbo..
I emailed secretary on 31st about the lung thing and they have been in touch with thoracic surgeon who they said will do A video appointment with me to save traveling...
I know its only a week since then, but every day feels like a lifetime and I feel frightened this could all go 'pop' in my head.... its funny because if that i.t.u bed had been available would my op have gone ahead, especially after the ct finding these spots, which incidentally were seen in January on a 'scanogram'
Ive never wanted my phone to ring as much as now,but also dont want it too either if that makes sense..
Thanks for listening x
Good evening, Moxy. Sorry, you are still going through all of this. I can't really add anything more to what Dani has said. Let's hope they get their act together and establish a plan of action. Wishing you and your family all the best, take care.

Hi Moxy1 my husband went through something similar last year. The treatment plan for his hypopharyngeal cancer was held up whilst ‘hot spots’ in his lungs were investigated; he had to have a biopsy in the end. Throughout the whole period we were being told it was almost certainly sarcoidosis and essentially benign, but that there was no point in proceeding with treatment for the cancer until they were 100% sure. Annoyingly they also said even biopsies were sometimes inconclusive for sarcoidosis, and if that was the case they would just get in with treating the diagnosed cancer anyway. Luckily the biopsy gave a clear result of sarcoidosis and his laryngectomy was carried out - successfully.
sarcoidosis is apparently common and often symptomless, but very difficult to distinguish from cancer on scans.
A lot to go through for your hubby, but glad all went well in the end....
Im just finding the stress and anxiety difficult at the moment, but im sure once it all gets going i will feel better, its just all the uncertainty.
Thanks so much and best wishes to you both too x
Hi......Just wondering can you remember how long it took for hospital to get around to doing the lung biopsy..the delay (or spsnner in the works) is mindblowing....I just want to get this difficult op out of the way, feel like it takes so long in between everything..
Hi, it took about 2 weeks for the biopsy to be done, and 2.5 to get the results through. He had an EBUS - is that what you are being offered?
At the time he had a provisional date of October 14th for surgery in Coventry, which was timed to allow for the biopsy and results to come through. However, even before the lung result came back the Coventry team decided he was too high risk for a laryngectomy due to his previous surgery and radiotherapy for tongue cancer. He got a second opinion from Gloucester, who were perfectly happy to operate but their earliest available date was 29th October.
Without the biopsy and if Coventry had been prepared to do it we were looking at end of September for the operation, but probably only 2 - 3 weeks of the delay can be ascribed to the biopsy, if you see what I mean. It was horribly stressful at the time, but we are really glad that he ended up in Gloucester with such a positive and supportive team and the end result is the best we could have hoped for based on discussions in July when he was diagnosed.
Thankyou for your reply and so pleased your hubby had a good outcome.
My op is scary because of the artery and various things in my head, and I also hope that this op is much more urgent than the lung things.
We live about 100miles away from Birmingham which unfortunately involves m6/5 - plus we have to book onto hotel for hubby, when my op was cancelled in Nov 25 we had to cancel a 2week stay, luckily wehad free cancellation
..
I feel like we're in limbo, and have no point of contact at hospital other than secretary
I really think im in good hands at queen eliz hospital and have some of the best surgeons (i hope) but need to be kept in the loop.
Speaking to you has been a lifeline and I hope you and your husband are getting on with life again x x
